REEL WOMEN FIRST MONDAY MIX!
First Monday of the Month, unless otherwise posted
Location:Opal Divine's Freehouse, West 6th & Rio Grande Streets, on the balcony upstairs

Mix Time: 6:00 - 8:00pm

If you're not familiar with the "First Monday Mix" . . . Some Reel Women got together and decided that we needed to do more casual and social events. It's great to get all that good information at the meetings and to get educated at the workshops, but sometimes we just want to chat . . . and get to know each other . . . and to pick each others' brains! Not only that, but if you miss a meeting, then you have to wait a whole month before you get connected again. And, voila! The first Monday of every month will be a "First Monday Mix". If the First Monday happens to be a holiday, then we might bump it into the next week, but we'll let you know for sure in our Updates newsletter.

If you're working on a project, looking for advice or support, or just need to get away from the computer and out of the house for awhile, this might be just the thing. No charge to attend, but the hosting establishment always appreciates your buying a snack or refreshment!

 Subject:"Winning -- and Other -- Films From the 48"

We'll be screening some local and national winning films from past years' 48 Hour Film Projects. (If you have a favorite you'd like to see again, let us know.) Q&A with participating filmmakers. Last chance for recruiting cast & crew for your team ... OR for finding a team to join.

This meeting is NOT just for participants in the 48 HFP. There will be networking, introductions and other activities, as well as the opportunity to see some good, amazing or interesting films and meet some filmmakers.

48 HOUR FILM PROJECT
Date:Weekend of June 20-22
Screenings:Tuesday, June 24, and Wednesday, June 25

Every minute counts when you only have two days to make a film!

REEL WOMEN is for the 7th time the local sponsor of this national event. Registration is open. Go to www.48hourfilm.com to register a team, to see winning films from previous years, to read about the competitions in other cities, to get answers to all your questions, etc.

We will meet on Friday night to draw for genre and get the common line of dialogue, character and prop, which must appear in every film. ALL completed films will screen at Regal's Arbor Cinema at Great Hills on the following Wednesday and Thursday. Films turned in on time will be in competition. A "Top 10 Films of Austin 48 HFP 2008" screening will take place mid-July along with the announcement of awards and the "Best Film of Austin 2008", which will then compete on a national level.

We had 28 teams last year, 27 films turned in, 25 on time. For a weekend of nothing but deadlines, no sleep, gallons of coffee, unexpected crises, participants sure seem to have a lot of fun.

OPPORTUNITY: REEL WOMEN would like someone to do a short behind-the-scenes documentary on this event. We have a small budget and some equipment. We would also like to have a still photographer work with us. If you're interested, contact us at reelwomen@reelwomen.org.

GROUP A

Groups will be assigned at the kickoff.

Tickets are $7.00 at the door; $5.00 in advance. Tickets can be purchased at the RW meeting, the kickoff and dropoff events -- CASH or CHECK only; or at www.reelwomen.org after June 18. A ticket is necessary for EACH screening. Team leaders will be provided two complimentary tickets to the Tuesday screening of their group.

DVDs of the "Best of Austin 2007" will also be for sale, $10 each.
